Dispute in Darbhanga Hotel Over Beef Biryani Served Instead of Mutton, Police Investigate

A major altercation erupted at a hotel on Shisho Road in the Mabbi Thana area of Darbhanga, Bihar, after a customer was allegedly served beef biryani instead of the mutton biryani he had ordered. The incident quickly escalated from a verbal dispute to a physical confrontation between the customer and hotel staff, prompting police intervention to restore order.

Incident Details

On Sunday evening, Mohammad Rashid visited Sparky Restaurant on Shisho Road with his relatives and ordered mutton biryani. According to Rashid, the biryani served to their table appeared to be beef instead of mutton. When he objected and raised the issue with the staff, a heated argument ensued, which soon turned violent. Rashid alleges that hotel employees abused and assaulted him and his companions.

Following the incident, Rashid filed an FIR at Mabbi police station against several hotel staff members, including Saddam, Danish Farid, Shoaib Khan, Zeeshan, Tufail Khan, and around two dozen unidentified individuals. In response, hotel staff member Mohammad Tufail also lodged a complaint, accusing Rashid and his group of attacking them.

Ongoing Investigation

Police arrived at the scene and managed to bring the situation under control. City Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar confirmed that complaints have been received from both sides, and an investigation is underway. CCTV footage from the hotel is being examined to establish the sequence of events and determine responsibility. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty.

Local Reactions and Previous Allegations

Local residents claim that disputes over food quality and service have occurred at this hotel before, but fear of the owner’s influence has discouraged open complaints. There is also criticism that the administration has not taken adequate action in past incidents. Police have emphasized that the truth will come out once the CCTV footage is reviewed.

Administrative Response

The local administration has directed hotel owners to clearly specify the type of meat used in their menu items to avoid confusion and ensure religious sentiments are respected. The case highlights not only a food-related misunderstanding but also broader issues concerning social harmony, law and order, and transparency in food labeling.
