Apple has launched its slimmest iPhone ever. The new iPhone Air was unveiled at a grand event in Cupertino, California, on 9 September 2025. The launch drew global attention as Apple presented a futuristic design, led by London-born industrial designer Abidur Chowdhury.

Abidur Chowdhury described the phone as “a paradox you have to hold to believe.” He added that Apple wanted to create “an iPhone that feels like a piece of the future.”

A New Era in iPhone Design

The iPhone Air is smaller and thinner than all previous models. It is crafted from titanium, making it both strong and lightweight. The starting price in India is ₹1,19,900 for the 256GB variant.

Despite its slim body, the device promises all-day battery life. This is possible because of Apple’s new optimisation software. It comes with a single telephoto camera, boosted by AI-powered tools for sharper photography.

Who is Abidur Chowdhury : The Designer Behind iPhone Air

Abidur Chowdhury was born in London and is now based in San Francisco. He studied Product Design and Technology at Loughborough University. Over the years, he has received top honours like the James Dyson Foundation Bursary, the New Designers Kenwood Appliances Award, and a prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2016.

Before joining Apple in 2019, Chowdhury worked with UK design firms and even ran his own consultancy. He also collaborated with global agencies and start-ups. At Apple, his journey has been marked by several innovations. The iPhone Air is his latest and most groundbreaking project.

His design philosophy is clear, he wants to create products that “people can’t bear to be without.”

iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Line-up

Along with the Air, Apple unveiled the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. These models are powered by the all-new A19 Pro chip. They feature better cameras, larger displays, and fresh colour choices.

The iPhone Air comes with a redesigned internal structure. Apple has merged the camera, chip, and system modules, creating room for a high-density battery. This makes the phone powerful yet compact.
